A Birthday Present-Geometric Girls
My best friend Laura Mckenzie (check out her TUMBLR!) has always been supportive and really likes the things I draw. So for her birthday present I decided to draw her some characters that she loves so much and frame them. This time I used the same pattern in each character.
I spent some time choosing the pattern I was going to use but in the end I used a geometric/triangle pattern that also happens to be the shape that reminds me of Laura the most because she is obsessed with triangles (strange, but that is why I love her!)
I was going to use only natural colour hair on this piece because I thought Laura would like that more but I couldn't resist adding pink, lilac and electric blue hair but I still think it looked good.
One of the best things in life is spending time making something and then seen the persons reaction and I'm so pleased that she loved the piece and she couldn't believe that I made it for her. Then we went into town for a few drinks to celebrate her birthday. I haven't seen this girl since Christmas and when we met up it was like we saw and chatted all the time. I had such a good time so thank you so much for inviting me and happy 20th birthday Laura Mckenzie x x

A Drawing a Day and Improvement
![]() |
| Day 29 A Drawing a Day |
I've always wanted to get into the very good habit of drawing in a sketchbook everyday! I have tried and failed to get into this habit a few times which resulted into a few crappy drawings, stress and then just not bothering to pick up a pencil for a month.
But this time I managed to break the 21 day mark (which is apparently how long it takes to form a new habit) and more importantly I am enjoying it. I also see slight improvement but the next step for me is to push myself more. It is good that I'm drawing everyday but if I just keep drawing the things I'm good at I won't improve.
Although I am enjoying it there are some days where I just don't have inspiration and on those days I end up with drawings I'm not pleased with, these you will never see.
BUT
I will be posting drawings that I am happy with. Starting with the page I did on the 26th March which was day 29 on this day I also drew the Pink haired girls from my "Pop Hair" set of drawings. For the past week I've been obsessed with drawing side views of characters so I've been drawing constantly.

Pop Hair
I started a new sketchbook yesterday and these are some of the first drawings I did and I just wanted to play around with unnatural hair colours. Basically these drawings have the hair I would want but I don't think I would suit them and I'm not brave enough to dye my hair in case I damage it too much!!!

Vampire Kid-Concept Art
This is my design ideas for the "Vampire Kid," character. Overall I am pleased with how it turned out.
Character Personality
I haven't developed her full back story or name yet. But I have a idea and know her personality:
•She is a tomboy
•Feisty when she needs to be
•loyal
•hates being told what to do
Process
I had no ideas for a story or a character, so I started by spending the afternoon just sketching random characters and thinking of the stories they have. It is amazing how much this helped me. Later on I might revisit some characters I left behind and develop them!
ANYWAY! I did pick a character I wanted to explore and develop further. I choose the "Vampire Kid," character.
From there I used a sketchbook to rough sketch different proportions and outfits of the character.
I then traced the best ones and added colour using letraset pro-markers and tria markers, which are great for getting colour down quickly.
My favorite is the one I done four different versions of. This is because the first two a too girly for my "tomboy" character. I didn't chose third design because it was too "modern" and I wanted my character to have aspects of a "traditional vampire".
I'm not sure what colours I will use yet. Opinions please? Comment below
I will be posting the basic plot soon and model sheets next week.

Future Plans for Character Designs
I decided to develop the “Little Vampire Kid” character from yesterday afternoons sketch session (see previous post).
So far I have sketched the character with different proportions and shapes and also outfits.
Currently I am working on a story for the character whilst also adding some colour to the designs.
I am super excited about this character and might make a mini project out of it. With it ending at the storyboard stage (as I need more of these for my portfolio) or I might turn it into a comic.
I was a bit worried about being totally rubbish at character design or not having any ideas. But it’s amazing what spending and afternoon doodling can do.
I will be posting soon with the sketches and designs of the progress I have made so far!
Just a note: Sorry for the low quality of my sketches, I have to photo them but my scanner will be up and working by tomorrow!

Afternoon doodles
I really need to work on actual character designs rather than just drawing "in proportion" and "semi realistic" illustration. Don't get me wrong I love doing that sort of drawing and I'll still do it, but since I want to go into animation I need to improve on character design and concepts. So I spent the afternoon sketching some random characters. I am currently developing the ballerina character but might develop another as well.
Other things I need to work on:
1-Movement in my drawings
2-Expressions

Disney Princesses
I had a little sketchbook that has always been lying around. I thought I would never use it because I hate/not used to drawing small scale.
So I picked it up I decided to draw some fan art! It turns it I LOVE drawing in the tiny sketchbook and surprisingly found it relaxing.
Just a note: I know on the pictures it has my tumblr address on it. I didn't bother to change it because it still links to one of my blogs.
